Many interesting gardens which are particularly colourful in May & June with rhododendrons and azaleas. Boat trips from Girvan to Ailsa Craig (a dormant volcano arising from the sea) A day trip to the Isle of Arran is another option (Ardrossan ferry terminal is 40 miles away) Stranraer (ferry to Northern Ireland) only 45 minutes away

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES & SPORTS Loch, sea and river fishing (the River Stinchar runs through the farm and free fishing can be arranged on this stretch which is at its best in September/October) Walking & Cycling - signed routes from the village (more details...) Golf - excellent choice of courses including Turnberry - an Open Championship venue Bird Watching Mountain Biking (trails from Barr to Loch Doon) Horse Racing at Ayr Racecourse

Forestry Commission Scotland has established part of Galloway Forest Park as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. The best time to observe the stars in the night sky is between October and April.

NEARBY VILLAGES & TOWNS Barr (1.5 miles) has a general store/post office. The town has the nearest petrol (gasoline) station to Glengennet. Ayr (22 miles) has a much wider range of shops, facilities and hotels, plus a cinema and an ice rink.
